Prescribed Study of
Subjects & Electives
Our College follows the prescribed study of subjects and electives as determined by NESA from Year 7-12.
Stage 4-Year 7 & 8
All Stage 4 students study:
English, Mathematics, HSIE, Science, PDHPE, Technology Mandatory, Music, Visual Arts and Sport, plus:
- 5 hours of Religious Education per cycle (fortnight)
- 1 hour per cycle dedicated to Academic Pastoral Care*
In Year 7 students also have 1 hour a week allocated to Literacy and Wide Reading.
In Year 8 students also have 5 hours per cycle of Italian.
*Academic Pastoral Care or APC includes year gatherings and assemblies, targeted programs and educational presentations, organisation and study skills and wellbeing programs and activities.
Stage 5 - Year 9 & 10
Students study mandatory subjects: English, Mathematics, HSIE, Science, PDHPE, Sport as well as Religious Education.
Stage 5 Elective studies: Students select two electives from: Commerce, Elective History, Elective Geography, Multimedia, Timber, Metal, Food Technology, Engineering, Child Studies, PASS, Music, Drama, Visual Arts and Photography.
All students in stages 5 and 6 (Year 9-12) have one hour a fortnight dedicated to Academic Pastoral Care (APC).
Stage 6 - Year 11 & 12
MCC offers the full suite of Stage 6 subjects.
All students study a subject from English, and Religious Education KLAs as mandatory components of their Preliminary and HSC course. Students are advised that studying a Mathematics course is not compulsory for the HSC. However, it is an important pre-requisite to many tertiary courses or training options.
Students then choose from a broad range of Academic or Vocational Education subjects to complete their 12 units required for the HSC.
All students in stages 5 and 6 (Year 9-12) have one hour a fortnight dedicated to Academic Pastoral Care (APC).
