Wellbeing Initiatives and Programs

We Foster a

Sense of Community

To build connection and understanding among our staff and students, we provide a variety of initiatives.

Individual year groups participate in community days where they connect with each other, with an emphasis on an area relevant to that group. Each community day has a spiritual element and this is incorporated into the activities of the day.

A favourite day on the Marian calendar is Harmony day. On this day we celebrate the cultural diversity of our College and use it as a reminder that it is just as important to encourage inclusivity whilst celebrating diversity. Another important event for us is NAIDOC, where we hold an assembly and different workshops for students throughout the day.

Students work together, and with staff, to develop and run programs for RUOK day and Stress Down Day. This is another example of students supporting students and recognises the importance of wellbeing.

What we can offer

  • Wellbeing Committee
    • Year 11 students form the Student Wellbeing Committee. This group of students works on nominated interest areas to enhance student wellbeing. They are a visible presence in the College and an ongoing part of the Wellbeing team
  • SchoolTV
    • SchoolTV is a wellbeing resource that can support you in the challenges relating to modern-day parenting.
    • This award-winning resource helps build relationships, foster connections, enable understanding and break down barriers to navigate a pathway towards better mental health and wellbeing for young people. It can assist in starting conversations on topics that are sometimes awkward or difficult to tackle.
    • SchoolTV topics are conveniently arranged into a number of series. Topics feature interviews with leading youth wellbeing experts and researchers from around the world offering hours of relevant and practical information.
  • Student Leadership opportunities and events.

At Marian we aim to build and foster a sense of community in a variety of ways.

    • Community Days for individual year groups with an emphasis on exploring and developing an area relevant to the groups age and stage.
    • Founder and Feast Days, which acknowledge and celebrate our Catholic faith and heritage.
    • Big Event Days like Harmony day. This allows us to celebrate the cultural diversity of our College.
    • NAIDOC Assembly and Activities. This happens after the official NAIDOC Week (which usually occurs in the mid year break).
    • RUOK day and Stress Down Day. These days are where students support their peers and promote wellbeing, participation and connection.
    • Care-van support and other community and social justice activities.
    • Participation in ANZAC ceremonies, Griffith Spring Citrus Festival.
    • Sporting events throughout the year.
